Be
aware of the closest exits at your office in the event of a fire
or other emergency.
Watch for strangers in your office. This is of special concern
to larger organizations or office facilities. Even if someone
looks official (carrying tools, wearing a uniform), it never hurts
to ask!
Keep
valuables out of sight, preferably in a locked drawer or cabinet.
Lock your office
door whenever you leave. If you work in a cubical, prevent unnecessary
theft - store important items in a locked drawer each night.
Close and lock
windows when you're away from the office.
Keep work area
organized to avoid time consuming complications in an emergency.
Carry a number
of ID cards and wear any required corporate ID in plain view.
This is often necessary in larger office buildings, where strict
security measures are enforced.
Walk with a
friend to your vehicle or public transit station after work. Do
not hesitate to ask a South Shore Security officer to escort you
to your vehicle. This is especially important during the fall
and winter, when the sun sets early.
Hold keys in
your hand with the sharp ends pointing outward when walking in
a parking lot, garage or on the street. They are simple, excellent
self-defense tools.
Park your vehicle
in a well-lit area. Double-check the area around your car as well
as your back seat.
Keep a charged
cell phone on-hand at all times, whether in or out of the office.
